Night buses in Bangkok (times for bus 29 Hua Lampong - Rangsit)

Night buses in Bangkok (times for bus 29 Hua Lampong - Rangsit)

Most bus lines stop around 10 pm, but some buses run all night, with reduced frequency (one or two per hour), e.g. lines 29, 59, 145, 203, 554 (Don Mueang – Suvarnabhumi). I have used night bus 29 quite a lot last year and recorded times for my common route (Sam Yan near MRT Hua Lampong to Lak Si)

The purpose was to see if there is any regularity, and I think bus 29 passes Sam Yan around full hour (without detailed statistical analysis). Unless otherwise stated, notes below are for bus 29.

  1. there are fixed times-as long as they also have enough staff for those buses(big problem for all buses), but thats from the garage in Rangsit. As you know, the time taken to do R'sity-HLP can vary enormously. Staff decide how long they stop at HLP-station-or not, or eat, or whatever.
You can only roughly rely on times just after they leave the starting point.
MOst night buses run ev 30, 40 or 45 mins.
Routes 60, 511(AC!), 77, 82 also do nighttimes, plus more.

  2. Indeed, there is a schedule, I saw one posted outside the bus terminal at Government center Chaeng Wattana. Busses leave more frequently during rush hours and less frequently at night. But with Bangkok traffic, times quickly become unpredictable during daytime, but at night you can see a pattern.

  4. I recommended this one in a earlier post: http://christianpfc.blogspot.de/2014/01/bangkok-bus-guide.html

There are only three bus maps I know of, the others are more difficult to get.

Some free maps (paid by advertising) have bus lines as well.

  5. The 29 Bus is the best connection between Don Mueang Airport and the city (Chatuchak / Victory Monument / Hua Longpom Railway or Metro station). Many Air Asia flights arrive there at night and the "Airport Bus" Service starts at 8 or even 9 am.
The bus stand may be a little hard to find. Take the lift UP (the same way as to the railway station) at the airport hall, walk on the overpass bridge for pedestrians and take the very first "stairway" down on the right hand side.
If you arrive well before midnight or after about 5.30 am it will be a good idea to change to the BTS Skytrain at Mochit Saphan Kwai or Ari
