Wats with Rahu in Chonburi province

Wats with Rahu in Chonburi province

Rahu พระราหู is a Hindu god who causes solar eclipses by swallowing the sun, often depicted as eating a golden ball (symbol for the sun). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahu

Usually only upper body and face shown. Picture of largest Rahu in Thailand, in Chachoengsao Wat Saman Rattanaram:

Wat Khao Bunmeedararam (Wat Thung Ka)
วัดเขาบุญมีดาราราม(วัดทุ่งคา) ต.ห้วยใหญ่ อ.บางละมุง จ.ชลบุรี.

Location (Rahu statue):
12°51'42.5"N 100°55'52.2"E = 12.861814, 100.931163
Chonburi province, Bang Lamung district, Huay Yai subdistrict. 2.6 km road east of Sukhumvit road (hwy 3), 80 m north of Huay Yai road ถนนห้วยใหญ่. Near Pattaya Floating Market. There is no mountain (despite the name).

Rahu statue, which is advertised as the tallest in Thailand. Even if you consider the statue starts on second floor, this is true according to my research.

Smaller statue in tent in front of big statue, notice all donations are in black (e.g. black candles and black roses):

I knew of this place from an advert on Sukhumvit road:

Wat Nong Yai วัดหนองใหญ่
ต.นาเกลือ อ.บางละมุง จ.ชลบุรี

This one is in in Pattaya Naklua, in walking distance (500 m) to Mini Siam or North Pattaya Bus Terminal. Location of Rahu:
12°57'08.2"N 100°54'33.0"E = 12.952284, 100.909175
Temple entrance is on Sukhumvit road (hwy 3). There are large banners next to entrance gate (partially covered by trees, pedestrian overpass and bleached by sun).

A walk-in Rahu underneath a Buddha statue under construction:

The entrance doors were closed when I visited a year ago, but open now (with nobody around), not much to see inside:

Nearby artificial lake with pavilion, waterfall and Naga:

Across the lake, statues doing traditional activities (move when you insert coin, didn't check if it still works):

Wat Pa Yup in Sattahip
วัดป่ายุบ ก.ม.๑ อ.สัตหีบ จ.ชลบุรี

I saw this picture on the internet http://www.manager.co.th/Local/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=9500000037538:

(7th of March 2550 = 2008, giant Rahu 10.29 m long, 4.29 m tall, 8.39 m wide with mouth 3.89 m wide).

No further information on the internet, satellite images didn't show anything, I had to go there to find out more. Apart from a giant Ganesh with Rahu above a door, nothing of interest.

From asking people at the temple, I gather that the giant Rahu was a temporary construction which has long been demolished.

Wat Chong Samae San วัดช่องแสมสาร
ต.แสมสาร ต.สัตหีบ อ.สัตหีบ จ.ชลบุรี

I learnt of this only now (checking old photos):

Will make another trip to Sattahip to go to this temple.

Once we are on the subject of Rahu: There is an entire temple dedicated to Rahu in Nakon Pathom province, Wat Sisa Tong วัดศรีษะทอง. I saw it when driving past (on road or railway), will visit some day.
