Consistent inconsistent Tuktuk Fares
Grab (or passpapp) has been a boon for me (solves two problems: destination and finding of price, or three: you don’t have to talk a word with the driver).
But whenever I meet someone who comes by tuktuk, the fares they quote are consistently inconsistent, i.e. 50 to 100% higher than what I estimate for the distance or location they told me. In Phnom Penh and now in Sihanoukville as well. A straight friend made the same observation with girls.
On passapp, you can use the app just to call a tuktuk, and then discuss destination and fare with the driver. It makes no sense! Are they really that stupid?
Return ticket to Koh Rong Sanloen 22 USD per person.
Stay in a bungalow for 12 USD per night. Fan, double bed with mosquito net, cold water in shower, no wardrobe, no furniture but get chair and table from outside (other empty bungalow's balcony), no fridge, no TV. Every day power outages for hours in the afternoon.
That's quite a step down in comfort from mainland, while paying similar prices. Food is more expensive and less choice. But I liked it on the island and would return.
