Dating Thai Boys (78) The Perpetuation of Poverty
This chat is with a Myanmar boy, nonetheless filed as Dating Thai Boys as I had similar conversations with Thai boys as well. The point is, for lack of 100 THB for taxi to come to see me, the boy is missing out on 1000 THB for short time. “I don’t have money for taxi” might be a scam, but the result is the same, missing out on 1000 THB for short time because the boy is rather fishing for someone who sends 300 or 500 (that's indeed the amounts that are requested) online and then does not go (assumption; no personal experience; if any of my reader sent money online for travel expenses please comment on the result).
Most boys end up selling their body not out of poverty, but out of laziness working a normal job or out of desire for luxury good they can’t afford by working a normal job. But “Perpetuation of Poverty” has a nice ring to it.

The boy in question worked in Screwboys, now changed to Fresh Boys, and I once crossed him on Silom but only afterwards recognized him. But I will certainly not go to pick him up in Screwboys, now that I have his Line and spent so much time, and one no-show and one cancellation.
Update: got him after one no-show and one cancellation. It was worth the wait! He spent 150 THB for a mocy taxi from his place in On Nut near BTS, a ride that would cost 100 by taxi. And didn't take any advice on how to get back cheaper. (Taxi too slow. MRT/BTS would have to change, impossible! Bus? No way!) I gave him 1000 for short time, and if he spends 300 of that getting to my place and back, that's his business.
I had several boys who were in the same dilemma, but had enough trust in me to take a taxi for me to pay on arrival. Some of them I had not met before, only online chat. But if anything goes wrong (e.g. boy’s phone battery empty and no way to contact me), the boy will be left with a taxi fare that he has no money to pay.
I was asked to send money for taxi online many times, but never did and will never do.

Deadly Hotels
ChristianPFC spends a lot of time in hotels and has written about the good and the bad before:
https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2019/11/bathroom-sinks-from-hell.html
https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2018/03/my-favorite-hotels-in-thailand.html
https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2016/09/wtf-key-deposit-in-hotel.html
https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2015/05/hotels-in-khon-kaen-chaiyaphum-nakon.html
But now we enter a new dimension: Deadly Hotels (or at least damaging to your health).
In a hotel in E-Tong / Pilok (Kanchanaburi province, deep in the mountains on the border to Myanmar, however no official border crossing). This water heater is gas powered (12 kW; most electrical water heaters have 3 or 4 kW which is just sufficient in winter in Bangkok, but would be insufficient in the mountains). It is not connected to a chimney, the exhaust goes into the bathroom. In the picture you can see the blue flame and the red LED for water temperature. When I sent this picture to my father, he called it a gas chamber, hence the title.
This bathroom has no extract fan at all. There are two good reasons for extract fans in bathrooms: remove smell from toilet and remove water vapor from showering. But these are just inconveniences, whereas if there is anything wrong with the gas, you can die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Actually right after turning it on, I could smell the gas (the gas itself has no or weak smell, what I smelled were the additives to detect leaks by smell).
The same hotel has a low lintel, I hit my head mildly several times.
I have an amazing brain, and even hitting my head lightly on the lintel can do damage.
Hotel in Yangon. Not visible in this picture, but the bathroom floor in front of the sink has a depression. When I took a shower in the evening, there would still be a puddle of water that has not evaporated in the morning. Easy to slip and hit your head.
Update 31jan2021 Phnom Penh
Most hotels I stay
in don't have a shower curtain or wall, the entire bathroom floor gets wet
when you shower. I almost slipped several times, and a friend slipped
and hurt his knee and now needs to take some days rest to recover.
Hotel in Yangon. The key tag has sharp edges. Be careful not to cut your skin when taking it out of your pocket. When I sent this picture to a friend, he replied: Todesfalle Hotel. Teil 141, scharfkantige Schlüssenanhänger. My translation: Death trap hotel. Episode 141, sharp/spiky key tags.
Sharp corners does not only apply to key tags. I once had Sticky Rice with Mango from a market which usually comes with a single-use plastic spoon. After eating, I had some unwell feeling on my lips and found that I had minor cuts in my lips from the spoon. Now I'm careful eating with these spoons.
I once spent time in a short-time hotel in Pattaya and when I touched the illuminated entrance sign to the hotel, I could feel an electrical current going through my body. There was an insulation problem with the electrical installation. In all my years, that was the only occasion that you can call a chance for an electrocution.

Gay activities December 2019
(Subject for another post, how the probability of meeting decreases the further it is in the future. I prefer to make appointments within one hour of agreeing to meet. I know that making an appointment at 17 for 22 is a long time span, and then another hour until it becomes clear 23 that we will not meet. On the other hand you could say that I gained these 5 hours to do something useful without being distracted by online dating, following several chats and after every message calculating which is the most promising.)
.
And in restaurants the WiFi password. In some places, WiFi password is clearly posted on wall, but other places asking for WiFi password has staff fluttering around like a flock of scared chicken (Do we have a WiFi password? Where is the WiFi password? Who knows the WiFi password? What is the WiFi password?).
I noticed the same for books many years ago: bookshops in Suvarnabhumi airport charge 20% more than those in town.

Mon30dec2019 Mae Sot
I have been chatting with a boy Min in Mae Sot for a while. Promising picture:
And interesting profile text: Don't be afraid of being different. Be afraid of being like everyone else.
Now in Mae Sot, a long to and fro in English (he wanted me to pick him up by car, and if I don't have a car, rent one) he finally got his mother to send me to my hotel (under the pretext of meeting a friend, he is not out of the closet). It turns out all chat in English was automated translation, but so good, I didn't notice. From now on communication in Thai.
For dinner to a restaurant of his choice, by taxi (which he called by phone) and which cost 150 THB for 3.9 km (and that's not a foreigner price, the driver had the call center phone line on so I heard other people being quoted similar prices), 400 THB dinner for two. Then return by taxi, 150 THB to his place and another 100 from there to my place.
An expensive night out (total 800), and no action. That was our one chance. Too demanding, fringe activities (I was hoping the dinner would be fringe activities and there would be more later) too expensive. No repeat.
