Going with a Farang friend by his car, in that case I can justify a one-night stay (when going by public transport 4 hours each direction, I have to stay 2 nights to make it worthwhile, and find some entertainment for the day).

There is a disassembled airplane about 150 m north of highway 7 (Chonburi - Pattaya) at km 121.3, easily visible from the highway (is on google street view Aug 2016, but not on satellite view).

Part of it are used as shelter or living areas. And the moment I concluded the line of thought: "if there is someone living here, there must be dogs around" I heard the dog growling. Fortunately it was not a vicious dog, and I'm not afraid of dogs, and I had gathered all material I need for a post, so I made a slow retreat.

Update 7mar2022: It seems this airplane was assembled to become Runway 88 International Street Food Plaza in North Pattaya (where NAB Men Club used to be). I can't match any of the markings on the construction kit with the assembled, however there are white spaces on the assembled. Google Earth matches: Nov2020 construction kit is there, North Pattaya is empty; Jan2021 construction kit is gone, airplane is in North Pattaya.

Thank you for bringing this up, I had a similar thread in mind when I first met the two Madagascan boys in Bangkok in June, but didn't get around to write it up. Sat 2sep2017 visit 20:19-21:00, orange juice 150 THB. I’m first customer, and owner has to send a boy to get ice for my drink. Owner is from Buriam and chatty (in Thai): open 20-1, there will be a show at 22:30 (but I won’t wait that long, go to Elysium instead), 7-8 boys work there. I saw about that number of boys passing (from entrance door to back door), two of them worth a second look. When I leave I see most of them are sitting outside, drinking and smoking.

The owner gives me a ride on his mocy to Elysium sauna, which is in easy walking distance and I know the way, but when he drives a detours and stops in a dark place I see the reason: to get a good grope inside my shorts (in the bar only some indecent touches outside), and we almost lose balance on the standing mocy over this!

Sun 3sep2017 visit 22:23-59. I was hoping to see the show, but today there will be no show. Music too loud and some boys smoking inside the bar. Two tables occupied, and after the customers leave most boys outside drinking and smoking. Except for one who sits next to me for small talk, some indecent touches and gives me a massage (and then asks for a tip afterwards, but sorry: I don’t come for small talk or massage, I want to see the boys in underwear!).

Railway station

In many places in Thailand, you can make interesting encounters at railway stations at night, but not in Hat Yai. The railway station is closed at night (for security reasons, there is a metal detector gate and an X-ray for luggage that all passengers have to pass to get into the railway station), and I didn’t see any hints of cruising or prostitution outside on two visits at night.

Khlong Saen Saep Express Boat (name of company)

A traffic-jam-proof way to travel along Saen Saep Canal. During rush hour very crowded and I advise against using it if you are fragile; getting on and off is no fun. Noisy engine. Totally unsuitable for tourism, you sit low and they pull up a tarpaulin to protect passengers from splashing water. Most of the canal has a walkway on either or both sides, can be used for walking or mocy.

It would be 650 m by road to Phra Athit pier (Chao Phraya express boat) - another "missing link" in public transport network in Bangkok. Walk around, have dinner, then return.

Maximum 10 passengers, drives slowly (even stops to let commuter boat pass), good view, comfortable seats and easy to get in and out (commuter boat poor view and getting in and out is dangerous).

But at those prices, and with 30 minutes between departures, I will take the commuter boat.

Update 28may2018: I saw two of these boats used to commuter boats. Better seats for those who get a seat, less standing room for everyone else. And only one point, but with stairs, to get in and out on each side. From that I assume that the service has stopped and boats are now used as commuter boats, keeping original seating, walls and stairs .
