Buy ticket 50k for van Capitol Tours 12:30 (no bus, be at office 12:20). The office in town is in walking distance to my hotel, saving me a ride on grab or passapp.

Pass VET: they have a bus at 13:45, toilet inside, only one stop, for 16.50 USD. Try this next time. A bit closer to my hotel as well.

In Thailand, travel is straightforward. But in Cambodia, even between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, every time I have to check if the bus/van I took last time is still going, if the departure and arrival at the same place, or if there is a better option.

Capitol Tours van get front seat and look out of window, a dozen cow crossings where van had to slow down and some crazy overtakings (in two rows), our van or oncoming traffic.

Departure 12:43. Stop for passengers in/out, lunch, toilet. Arrive at Capitol Tours 18:15.

There are several tuktuk hanging out at my hotel, some even family of manager? Give them yet another chance, and they quote 7 USD to take me to airport. I show them price on grab (17k4 about 4.20 USD) which is cheaper. They use petrol which is more expensive than gas*. Fact check: 11 km, about 20 km return trip at 10 L / 100 km at 1 USD / L costs indeed 2 USD petrol, whereas cost of gas negligible.

*Gas here not as abbreviation for gasoline, but for the gaseous state of the fuel at normal temperature and pressure (even though it can be stored as liquefied gas under pressure).

The higher cost is indeed justified by price of petrol vs gas, but other factors equal, I don't care if the vehicle runs on petrol, gas, or unicorn blood, I take the one which is cheapest.

No matter how you approach the issue, getting a tuktuk from an app is always cheaper and faster and more convenient than getting one from road. Whereas in Thailand, hailing a taxi from the road is a bit cheaper (about 20 THB) than apps, and I know where I'm going and can speak Thai, so I always hail one from road.

Compare with grab in Thailand, Malaysia Hotel to Pata Pinklao is same distance 11 km and would cost 243 THB about 7.20 USD.

17k4 grab to airport. I pondered bus as well, but would need grab to get to bus stop, don't know frequency of bus, and at airport would have to cross main road. Grab did not charge me extra for airport. Cars can enter airport grounds 10 min free, after that payable.
