Wat Phuttha Nimit in Nakhon Phanom

Wat Phuttha Nimit in Nakhon Phanom

Actually there are two Wat Phutthanimit in Nakhon Phanom Province, Tha Uthen District, different sub-district. Distance by road 59 km, by air 44 km. Both have something of interest to me, only when I went to go there did I realize these are two places.

Wat Phutthanimit is a common name for temples, according to a Thai friend it means "Buddhist dream".

Wat Phuttha Nimit วัดพุทธนิมิต Woen Phra Bat
The unique feature of this temple is the Buddha head. Used to be part of a Buddha statue (brick and concrete) that collapsed. A lap width of 9 m and a height of 29 m and a length of finger of 4 m is reported, but from what I saw, I estimate the statue was 5 m tall.

The following picture from internet, posted 30apr2014 (that's when the Buddha head received attention on internet and social media, not the date the statue collapsed, as far as I understand)

Current condition, the head housed in a pavilion. Surprisingly, it's tilted on purpose. I have never seen a tilted Buddha statue or head elsewhere.

Remnants of the body scattered around and overgrown. Here you can clearly see it's made of brick and concrete, and certainly not 29 m tall.

Wat Phuttha Nimit วัดพุทธนิมิต Nong Thao
Unusual architectural style; gable, ridge, rake reminiscent of White Temple in Chiang Rai. Unusual mural paintings as well.

Sun was in unfavorable position, here one picture from googlemaps:
