A Fable from Africa (2)

A Fable from Africa (2)

Introduction see previous post. This is not a continuation of article (1), rather a new story with a similar message.

English translation (German original at the end of the article):
--------------------------------------------------
Often on Sundays, I would have a meal in a restaurant in the market square. The big TV brought news from around the world. Among other things, civil war refugees were shown who had tried to cross the Mediterranean in a miserable nutshell of a boat and had been fished out of the water by the Italian coast guard.

A middle-aged gentleman sitting at the next table addressed me: "Look, they're doing it right. Now they are in Italy, and never need to work again. One day I'm going to Italy with a boat like that and I'll be rich! Maybe also to England or America. "
"It's very far away and you have to go through a big, dry desert. And there might be robbers. And at sea there are very high waves. Nine out of ten people die on the journey. And why should you suddenly be rich if you actually arrive in Italy? "
"Because all people are rich and never have to work."
"These are just fairy tales. You will also have to work in Italy. And to earn a lot of money, you would need a good vocational education. I'm afraid they would not accept you. "

The Malawian smiled haughtily and said, "I'm smart enough to know what the difference is between a narrated story and something I've seen with my own eyes. With these eyes! "He pointed with both hands to his face. "The whites say it is difficult to come to their country. That's just a story, I did not see that. Whites like to tell that they have a job and need to work for their money. This is also only a story. And the whites claim that in Italy and America they cut the lawn themselves, and sweep the house themselves, and clean their own babies’ butts too. Again, just such a story.

But on television, I've often seen how the whites really live. I saw it with these eyes. The whites sit in their huge houses talking to each other, drinking whiskey, sleeping with strange women, driving fast cars, chasing criminals and spies, all such things.

I saw it with these eyes! Nobody cuts the lawn, nobody sweeps the house, no one cares for the baby, and nobody works at anything. I saw that with these eyes. Once I am in Italy or in America, I will live so well and comfortably. I'm smart and knowledgeable, so do not tell me stories.

All the lies are said to keep us Africans only where we are poor, because the whites begrudge us that we too will become rich. "
"No, we are not all rich," I countered.

The African laughed at me: "Oh! And why are you giving away your clothes if you just wore them once? In the marketplace are thick bundles of it. I saw that with these eyes, every week. And you're giving away money because you have so much of it that you throw it away like banana peels. And with you, nobody needs to work for wages, you are already rich.

If you work in Africa, you will not get paid either, I know that very well. I know someone in the immigration office who told me you even paid to work here. I know it exactly."

Just then, two young men joined in the conversation: "We have a cousin in Germany, who is a civil war refugee and he gets a lot of money every month without working.”
"But why a civil war if it’s not true?” I asked as a naïve European.
"He told a story. That's obvious."
"When the authorities in Germany find out," I said, "then this cousin will be sent back to Africa, that's clear, too.”
"Ah, they will find nothing out in Germany," said one of the young men.
And his brother added, "And even if they do find out something, our cousin will not be sent back. He's smart and just tells a new story. "

"What do you pay for such a trip?" I wanted to know.
"One million Kwacha. Some people even pay two million Kwacha (about € 10,000). "
I was horrified. "For this huge sum, you could have founded a company here. A big company that could provide work and bread for the whole family and develop your region. "
The middle-aged man was skeptical. "Yes, well it’s possible. But such a company can go bankrupt. Then all the money would be gone. That's a big risk. "
"But on this trip," I said, "you can not only lose your money, but your life as well. Nine out of ten people die on the way! "

The three men stared at me for a while. Finally one said: "Only nine? If I travel by bus to Lilongwe, there could be an accident with nine dead. But, I would always go back to Lilongwe.”
"That's not what I meant," I tried to explain. "I'm talking about ninety percent, that's nine out of ten."
"What? Nine or ninety?!  Do you think we are stupid?! "
Should I answer politely or honestly? No matter…….

The three geniuses now spoke Chitumbuka or Chitonga, and I could no longer follow the conversation. However, I kept hearing "a million" and several countries’ names. Then one of the brothers wrote his phone number on a small piece of paper and the middle-aged man put it in his pocket. I sensed evil.
After the two left, I said "Surely you don’t want to give money to those two tricksters?"

"It's a good investment. For one million in Malawi I would only get a house. But these two gentlemen can take me for a million to where I get a house, and a car, and a servant. And I’ll never have to work again. The deal is just too great! "

The man was plundering himself and his whole family into a grave misfortune. Of course, I wanted to save him from that. "These young men are liars. They just want your money, and you’ll never get to be in Italy! "

"Wait a moment! Who is the liar here? Nine dead, ninety dead, or a thousand dead. I know what you're up to. I do not believe you!! I will go by boat to Germany, or England, or to America. And then I'll be rich and give my family all the money back. Even twice! "

He will never reach Europe and he will leave nothing to his family - only debts.

German original / Original in Deutsch:
--------------------------------------------------

„Was? Neun oder neunzig?! Hältst du uns für blöd?!“

Sollte ich höflich oder ehrlich antworten? Egal.

A fable from Africa (1)

A Fable from Africa (1)

My parents meet interesting people through volunteer work at an animal shelter. Among those acquaintances was a couple who tried to build a farm and start ecological tourism in Malawi. But after several years of toil, they had to give up because they couldn’t work with the locals.

Does that sound familiar? My experiences in Thailand are similar, see here: https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2018/04/looking-for-alternative-to-thailand.html

They wrote a book about their experiences.
Original title in German: Mzungu: Auswandern-Abenteuer-Afrika
My translation: Mzungu: Emigration–Adventure-Africa
Mzungu refers to people of white skin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mzungu

The ebook in German language is available here:

With the author’s permission, I used google translate and a native-speaker-friend’s help for proofreading to translate two chapters that have the character of a fable and nicely illustrate the way of thinking of the general population (PC for: their intellectual limitations, or in plain language: how stupid they are) in Malawi.

English translation (German original at the end of the article):
--------------------------------------------------
I always took it easy, wrote, went for walks and ate well in restaurants that were not run by Malawians - and I talked to people. That's how I met Penjani. She was not yet sixty years old, but looked like an octogenarian.

"I can still remember exactly how I saw whites for the first time, that's fifty years ago now” she said, "I was still a junior high school girl back then. My big brother Johane and I were on our way to class. Our friends were with us too. We walked down the street which was not yet paved then.

Suddenly a car came along. It drove slowly, because the rainy season had begun, and the road was slippery with mud. We had enough time to look in the car. There were three beings inside who almost looked like humans, but they had pink skin and yellowish hair. We were very surprised. But we were happy, because we had never seen anything like it. We waved and walked a little further. The car passed slowly.

And suddenly something incredible happened: a white man threw coins from the open window. They were real coins! We children stooped and collected the money while the car drove on. We searched in the grass, but there were more kids than coins. Johane's best friend Lazaro had not found a coin and was sad. Then Lazaro grabbed one of the smaller children and beat him until he gave up his coin. The other little ones ran away.

Only me, Johane and Lazaro were left. Suddenly, the two boys were fighting, and my big brother lost his coin to Lazaro. After that Johane and Lazaro were no longer friends. It was upsetting and we both cried. We searched again in the grass and even in the mud, but we did not find any other coins.

We did not go to class that day. Nor the next either. Several weeks passed. Then, our parents found out about it and beat us. I went back to school. But Johane continued to stand on the street, waiting for some whites to give away money. Our father beat him again, but Johane just did not go back to class. Eventually my brother was bottom in the class. He preferred to stand on the street, so he did not get a school diploma.

My parents decided it would not be possible for me to graduate if my big brother did not have one too. So I had to stay home and help. And that's why I do not have a school diploma. "
"That's terrible. And all because a white person had given away money, "I said.
"Yeah, he was crazy or stupid or something," Penjani said.
"Where did you learn English?" I asked.
"I worked for whites for a few years. They too, were crazy or stupid or something. They also gave away things. Not just to relatives or friends. No! They gave gifts to strangers! So strange."
Penjani spoke in simple terms. But this old lady has taught me a lot. Now I understand why these people hate and despise us.
--------------------------------------------------
German original / Original in Deutsch:
--------------------------------------------------

Dating SEAsian boys (2) Filipinos

Dating SEAsian boys (2) Filipinos

Supporting information to previous post https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2019/05/dating-seasian-boys-1-overview.html

In 2011 I chatted with a Filipino in online dating, then met in Khao San road, then went to my room. A bordercase, and his wanking was rather rough and he might have injured my penis if I hadn’t stopped him.

In 2012 I chatted on gayromeo with a boy, and on his facebook I saw he likes wine, and as I was working in France at that time I offered to bring him a bottle. Once I was in Thailand, he went quiet (messages read but no reply), and at the end I gave the bottle to a Farang friend.

In 2018 I chatted with boy who is teacher in Ramkhamhaeng on hornet. I once went to meet him, no show. Second appointment (he will come to my room and I will pay for taxi) cancellation. Details below.

Then on 14dec2018 I chatted with another on hornet, who is in Silom area. During chat he mentioned money problems, and as he is only a bordercase, I said goodbye. There is nothing wrong with being a money boy, but say so early in chat, and not a sob story just before meeting! Details below.

(Blogger mixes up the formating and inserts blank lines where there were non in the draft on Microsoft Word in the follwing chats.)

Pinoy in Ramkhamhaeng, no show:
