The main purpose of this trip was sightseeing, but Farang friend with car has interest in gay nightlife in Chiang Mai. Venues mentioned: House of Male, See Man Pub, Ram Bar, Orion.

House of Male 18:50-19:29, entry 130 Baht. Entrance area changed since last visit over a year ago (trees are gone, now wall to main road), to the west construction work for pool. Over 30 customers, all too old and too fat. Several Farang customers. Most customers in towels, some in underwear. Some groping in steam room and showers. I didn’t find a real sauna. Two big towels of good quality, condom and lube provided. Note in locker room: no nudity.

Have a look into See Man Pub 23:35: no customers yet. Continue to night bazar area.

There seems to be show in preparation at Ram Bar at midnight, but I have no interest in show and couldn’t spot any cute boy.

But there is a cute boy at Orion, so we stay 00:18-01:01. Soft drink 50 Baht. The cute boy notices my interest and joins our table after he finished playing pool. Little English, all conversation in Thai. (I didn’t write down his name, and now I don’t remember his name!) He is Shan and has been working there for some days, his brother (?) has been working in Orion for longer. Small talk quickly peters out and none of us gets to the point (how much?). Skin temperature check positive. I ask him what he will do after work: go home and sleep. Not a good start. And indeed when the bar closes at 1:00 he gets up, says goodbye and is on mocy with his brother (?) and gone before I can think of anything to say. Just minutes* before I could ask him if he wants to come with me tonight. Saved me a lot of money!

*It’s always “just minutes before” – I am indecisive.

I didn’t have a hotel yet (kept my stuff in FF’s car and showered and changed in FF’s hotel room to save time), but had something in mind (Green Hotel, stayed there before and in walking distance of FF’s hotel). While walking to the hotel, I check hornet and have the following conversation (messages only minutes apart, copied from https://hornetapp.com/, the desktop version of hornet):

Some months ago a friend forwarded this picture without any details:

Extensive research on the internet gave no result, and on Thaivisa www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/930094-temple-with-old-airplanes noboby knew for sure where it is, but at least the airplane was identified as RTAF-4 Chanthra จันทรา https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTAF-4 (first flight 1972, which means the swastika is an anachronism).

Then I had the brilliant idea to show this picture to staff at Samut Songkhram stall at a travel fair ( ไทยเที่ยวไทย ครั้งที่ 40 on 1-4 Sep 2016 in QSNCC) and they told me it's across main road from Wat Bang Kung วัดบางกุ้ง.

But when I went, the plane with the swastika was gone, and the other one (or a different one in its place?) had a different paint:

Dating Thai boys (44) broken record

With a Burmese* boy in Klong Toey (BBKT), conversation is in circles: “how are you, have you eaten yet, miss you, hope to see you again”, repeat ad nauseam. But I hope something useful will come out some day.

*Myanmar, more precisely Karen. But I had similar conversations with Thai boys.

I met him Nov 2015 at Klong Toey market (he works there) and actually had my eyes on one of his friends, and exchanged phone number and Line with said friend. Then BBKT got my Line from said friend. BBKT has been to my room once with a friend to study English, and once alone after we went swimming at Malaysia hotel pool. That would have opened the way for more, but he was playing with his phone, otherwise I would have hugged him and taken it from there. I have been to his room once, not too bad.

These two encounters in my room, I picked him up at Klong Toey and for return took him to bus stop, something I have not done for anyone else (picking up and taking to bus stop twice).

Now I wave hello whenever I’m at Klong Toey market, but he is usually busy, no time for chat. His working times are about 20:00 to 8:00, we could easily meet before or after work if he wanted.

Below is just a part of our conversation: he occasionally changes Line and facebook accounts, this is the current Line; more is on abandoned Line and facebook accounts. When he creates a new account, he adds me, he must have some interest in me.

The basic problem is unreliable communication: We agree in the evening to meet the following morning, but I can’t reach him until the following evening, or it might even take days until I can reach him. I have to find out if this is a technical problem or if he forgets/oversleeps. It might be that he shares a mobile phone with his friends, and whoever wants to use it puts his SIM-car in. Or he doesn’t have money for data connection.

In this aspect, the situation is very similar to ex-BFC6in2016: can’t get together due to poor written communication on Line.

BBKT’s spoken English is ok, sometimes I don’t understand what he writes and some words are clearly beyond his abilities, some automated translation must be involved.

Budget Hilton Sri Bam Pen is no more

There use to be Budget Hilton in Soi Sri Bam Pen. I intended to stay there for one night in Feb 2011 (?), but after seeing the room, I decided otherwise (must have been around 300 Baht per night, everything very old and worn). Shortly after, the hotel closed for good and the building has been vacant for years until Aug 2016 when construction work set in. Alas, it's not for renovation, it's for destruction!

I liked the architecture and the yard in front and looking through the tunnel I could see a garden and pool in the back, now it's all being torn down.

What will be constructed in its place? A condo? A mall? Something even more exciting? We will see.
