Public transport to/in/from Pattaya
Getting from Bangkok to my hotel in South Pattaya, getting around Pattaya, and getting back from my hotel to Bangkok.

Bangkok to Pattaya
Trains still start from Hua Lampong and do not pass KTW. Bangkok to Pattaya weekday ordinary 282 at 6:55 and weekend special 997 at 6:45 too early for me.

I usually take bus from Roong Reuang Bangna Trat (google maps: ท่ารถรุ่งเรือง บางนา - Pattaya bus station) at 13.6713, 100.62. Buses from Ekkamai and Mor Chit stop here. Over the years, there was always a seat for me on the next bus (usually less than 30 min wait) and current price is 131 THB.

The above works well for me to get to Pattaya, the difficulty is getting to my hotel. Tue15oct2024 dep 14:26, arrive in North Pattaya Bus Station 16:13. The difficult part is to get from there to South Pattaya. Songtheos inside bus station ask for 50 THB which is price gouging. I cross the road and wait for passing regular songtheos. One stops and tells me it goes only to Dolphin Roundabout, I let it pass. The next tells me the same, so I take it (10 THB, 16:41-47) and change to another (10 THB, 16:50-17:06 South Pattaya). This is getting tedious!

Airport bus line 389 "sex tourist express" from Suvarnabhumi gate 8 to Jomtien every full hour. They have a website for online booking rrcticket.com 143 THB plus 25 THB service charge for online booking. I checked several times, next available seat is 3 hours from now. When I leave the booking window open and come back with less than 3 hours left, message: fully booked. Either they don't allow online booking less than 3 hours before departure or it's indeed always fully booked. However, a friend recently took the bus and noticed several empty seats left. This bus stops in Sukhumvit South Pattaya, from where it's easier to get to my hotel than from North Pattaya Bus Station. And for people staying around Jomtien Complex, it's walking distance.

Nowadays I sometimes go by taxi with sightseeing along the way as a day trip.

Getting around Pattaya

From my experience, South Pattaya to Jomtien and circular (Beach Road and Second Road) have high frequency. Sukhumvit North Pattaya to Dolphin Roundabout / Terminal 21 low frequency (see above). Sukhumvit South Pattaya to Second Road low frequency, recent experience: 11dec2024 Wait at songtheo stop 15:58, others there already. 10 THB songtheo 16:30 with 7 pax, out 38 at Tuk-Com. Walking would have been faster! That's 32 min wait and 8 min ride for a distance of 2.0 km. A friend has similar experience.

A mocy for this trip would cost 50. With a Bangkok taxi, 2.0 km would cost 40, and a mocy would cost 20-30. I would have to compare with mocy elsewhere in Pattaya to judge if this is price gouging or mocy prices in Pattaya are indeed higher than taxi in Bangkok.

Travelling along Sukhumvit road north or south is easy by taking a van or songhtheo (white, line 1631จ, Satthahip to Nakluea) for 20 THB, or varying by distance.

Following picture is one of such vans, Bangkok-Pattaya, labelled only in Thai, which stops at all local places. Suitable to travel short distances; between Bangkok and Pattaya however would take an hour longer for frequent stops and not using motorway or tollway.

However beware of vans that are not full and wait for more customers, recent experience: Walk to Sukhumvit road and ask an arriving van if he passes Wat Banglamung. I should have known when I got in, only 2 passengers, that we will wait long time for more passengers. Wait in van 11:16-45, then another longer stop at central Pattaya bus office, driver asks me to pay fare here, 40 THB. Out on Sukhumvit 12:22 near Wat Banglamung. Unreasonably slow and expensive.

Bolt partially makes up for these shortcomings. In 2023 and 2024, I had several trips of about 20 km for about 200 THB. Prices like Bangkok taxis.

Line 6085 (dark blue, Nakluea to Chak Ngaew ชากแง้ว) goes along Sukhumvit and then inland on Huay Yai to Chak Ngaew.

Yet some more lines on https://pantip.com/topic/30424693 (Thai only: สองแถวพัทยา = Songtheos in Pattaya) from 2013, might be outdated.

Pattaya to Bangkok
Train Pattaya to Bangkok weekdays ordinary 284 14:21 and weekend special 998 16:26 is okay timing and arrival in Hua Lampong convenient for me and interesting to see the countryside, so I take it once ever 5 years even though it's a bit slow about 5 hours.

Airport bus line 389 Jomtien to Suvarnabhumi can be booked at their counter, no service charge for online booking. Conveniently located, whereas from airport there is no other way than booking online and paying 25 THB, unless you want to turn up without booking and wait hours for the next free bus.

Van from South Pattaya (in front of Pattaya Tai Center Condo, google maps: Mini bus to bangkok) to Ekkamai or Mor Chit. Timetable at station: to Ekkamai 6:30 every hour until 19:30, to Mor Chit 2 6:00 every 90 min until 19:30. Cost is 160 THB. They stop for gas, everyone has to get out of the van. Notes from recent ride: departure schedule 13:30, real 13:06. Gas stop 14:34-44. Detour to Samrong, there U-turn 15:50. Ekkamai out 16:25. (The van always does a detour to Samrong and lets me out on main road near Ekkamai bus station, does not enter bus station). The departure time very flexible, in above case 24 min early!

Long-distance other than Bangkok
There are several bus stations that serve all parts of Thailand: Chan Tour, 407 Pattana Comp, Pattaya Pannipa, Nakhonchai, "Pattaya South Big C Supercenter" to Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat; "Pattaya Minivan Station" to Sakaew, Aranyaprathet, Rong Kluea (picture below).

The above date is to the best of my knowledge, probably incomplete, needs more research.

Wat Banglamung

Wat Banglamung
Wat Bang Lamung วัดบางละมุง is easily accessible by public transport from Pattaya (18 km by road from Walking street, 400 m from Sukhumvit road near Laem Chabang) and boasts an ubosot decorated in ceramics, a whale skeleton, a large pine tree and an abandoned brick ubosot.

I was going to have a coconut water, but then I saw the price of 70 THB, which is tourist pricing. Would cost 30 - 40 elsewhere in similar circumstances. The fact that drink and food menu were in Chinese gave a hint, and later a tour bus with Chinese tourists arrived. That's why they can charge 70 THB for a coconut water.

Nearby is an old Ubosot โบสถ์ร้าง บางละมุง (abandoned Ubosot of Wat Banglamung) 13.0467, 100.921.

In Thailand on online shopping platforms, you can get rings to stretch earlobes (that's how I got the idea to try the same for phimosis), but would have to order each diameter separately, I didn't find any set. There might be forms of phimosis that cannot be cured by stretching? Best to see a doctor first.

This is one of the rare cases where I give more (500 THB instead of the 300 we had agreed on for massage) for two reasons: he is a nice person and his hardships (from Myanmar, here without passport) are real. I have to force it on him, first he refuses.

Arrive 14:50, KK37 meets me on road, positive first impression. To his room. This is the most barren/spartan room I have ever seen. It costs only 2000 THB/month. There is no aircon, no water heater, not even a sink in bathroom, just a squat toilet. He has been living here for months, yet very little furniture. Not even hooks, only rusty nails and screws. He has only one towel.

But great activities in bed, he is what I call “power bottom”. He can't get enough, in various positions, I have to ask to stop to take a rest. Without aircon, it's just bearable in rest, and we get sweaty during activities, which I don't like. Bye 17:42. A clear repeat, but under more favorable circumstances (my room or short-time room with aircon nearby?).

To Winner Bar, stay 20:47-21:23. 7 Boys and one other customer. My favorite recognizes and greets me, and today no problem to get his attention, to sit with me, and to off him. Previous was like taking your cat to the vet. Total cost 728 (my drink, boy drink, off fee) in the bar. I basically go there to pick him up. Jomtien Complex 22:01. M Bar looks promising, they have a show with boys in costumes, I go in for a drink (89 pineapple juice) and stay 22:07-23:06. Full of boys and customers, I get a third-class seat* (away from stage and have to turn my head 90 deg to see stage or other way to see rest of the bar and other boys). Several worth a seconds look. On leaving, I ask outside: shows 22 and 24 (each one hour long?), closing 2 am. Show were only boys in costumes (with some skin), towel show, no ladyboy lipsync (thank you very much!).

We can do some generalizations about boys from this trip: my favorite in Winner and Fluke don't play on their phone when we are together, always have one hand on my body, and in no rush. For me, a good encounter takes up to two hours, but many boys get impatient after one hour. But these two, when I have exhausted everything I can I think of, I end our encounter.

I have to catch them in a moment where they have a lucid phase and I have their attention for long enough to set up a date.

However, now I learnt that they are Jomtien Complex regulars, so I might catch them there in person. Or did they get 1500 from other customers, and now rather wait for someone who gives them 1500 instead of going with me for 1000?

Instead of paying for his meal, I get most of it for free.

We wait for his friend Koko, and that's a clear hit! Now it would be impolite to hit on Koko, but I observe Koko is on hornet on his phone, so I have a look as well to know his profile, there shirtless even better! They say goodbye to me (I thought we would have a drink in Silom Soi 4, on the other hand he said he can be with me until 23), bye 23:03 on Silom, and I walk home. Boss messages on Line: sorry he can't take care of me. Pass DJ station, entry 300 including two drinks, a few people already going in and out.

Even if he were without make-up, I find it difficult to imagine having sex with BossSS. Koko however a clear hit, but he is 34 km away on hornet, no idea if we ever get together.

Meet an old friend from Cambodia in Silom, his idea to go to Soi 4. We have drinks at Circus (mango juice glass 115, Chang beer pint 500 ml 145). Too loud, too many people, only few cute. Right side in picture (North side, Lao side) you can see the change of traffic direction in form of a stretched X in the road. From the bridge, you drive in on left side of the road and after the X you are on the right side.

Nearby is a series of rocks (dolphin stone หินปลาโลมา) that form a line and are visible during low water level. Judging by pictures posted, you can even take a boat to walk on them.

Nearby is a temple (Wat Pa Sut Khet Daen Siam, Bueng Kan Town: Temple of the Silver Buddha Image วัดป่าสุดเขตแดนสยาม) with a white ubosot.

There are no towels either, but I knew and we brought towels from hotel. No drinking water either.

Steam room is hot and low visibility. Cold puddles on floor. Benches too hot to sit. I observer some groping. Pools are labelled 41/42/43 C but I brought a thermometer and measure 42/44/42 C. Round cold pool has 25 C. Spot only few small tattoos, estimated 1 out of 20 customers. Use of locker costs 20 (pay in cash 2 x 10 coins, but locking and unlocking digital, can unlock only once). I go for a swim in their 50 m pool. There is a note that this lane is for fast swimming under 70 s, and maximum 30 s rest at shores. Sauna 62 C. Steam room hot, no thermometer. Pools lukewarm and lukecold. Swimming only with rubber cap, I can borrow one for free at reception.

It can be generalized, online dating in Taiwan, China and Vietnam is equally poor for me. This is two-sided, I prefer darker skin, and Chinese and Vietnamese show less interest in me than Myanmar, Thailand, Lao, Cambodia. Both factors work to my disfavor and make it about 10 times harder to get a date in Taiwan, China or Vietnam. When coming from or going to one of the easy online dating countries, it's just not worth trying in difficult online dating countries.

I expect similar (poor boy business) in South Korea and Japan, and that's another factor (beside long travel time from Thailand, higher prices than in SEAsia and cold winter) why I might never go there.

Thanks for your report. I have just (two weeks in November) been back to Taiwan first time after Covid. In total 6 trips to Taiwan. My experiences with guys the opposite: online dating so poor that I don't bother any more*. The sauna Soi 13 in is still great, the best I have been to in all my travels, but at 1000 NTD entry (1040 THB) simply too expensive. But Taiwan is still on my list for sightseeing and hiking.
