Gay venues and places of general interest near gay venues.
The cityscape of Bangkok in the 2010's changes as quickly as that of London in 1940. Demolition and construction everywhere. I guess in Bangkok alone there is more construction than in entire Germany.
Soi Twilight venues moved to Patpong in spring and buildings are currently being demolished. Current (pic13dec2019) status from Surawong road:

Sake disco moved from Trok Sake near Khao San to Arun Amarin road near Pata Pinklao. The original venue demolished and at time of posting an empty plot of land.
That was the longest running gay disco in Thailand after DJ station. Sake has been there since a Thai friend first took me in 2010. All others (G-Star, Fake) stayed only a few years in one location and then either moved or closed permanently.
City Walk (gay restaurant and karaoke near Saranrom park) closed in the original location (the building is currently empty) and moved to near new Sake disco (I noticed Sep2019). https://christianpfc.blogspot.com/2015/04/city-walk-karaoke-near-royal-palace.html
Vincent guesthouse in Soi Ngam Duplee closed years ago (and the building still empty pic15aug2018) and moved to where Mali restaurant used to be (in front of Pitak court), then continued as restaurant for some years, now gone and a new restaurant in it's place.
Om Yim restaurant in Sathorn gone, now there is a coffee/bakery.
Lido restaurant moved from corner into the soi years ago. Whoever rented the corner was not a good businessman (or a good business man and got rich quickly and retired), there have been several businesses in hat place over the years (pic5nov2017).
The restaurant at the corner Soi Sribampen / Soi Prong Chai used to be called Feeling, then changed name to Luna (pic14dec2017), then ???, now Masala.

BBB Inn gone. The building is empty and I'm not aware that they moved somewhere else.
Malaysia hotel has been renovated some years ago. The 7-Eleven across has been enlarged this year (Or last year? Things change so quickly, I can't keep track.) to take over the space of the SCB exchange booth.
Ibis hotel got new reception areas this year. Now there is a bar with a pun for my loyal reader vinapu (whose favorite drink is 50% gin with 50% gin): LET THE EVENING BE GIN.
And many more smaller changes in that area (Malaysia hotel): the last internet cafe on Soi Sribampen is gone, now there is a public washing saloon. The small shop that used to sell stationery and postcards and stamps is gone (pic11dec2017).

sake torn down must be very recent. has it moved to where once years ago that famous general disco Amarin used to be?
ReplyDeleteYou can add -but the buildings are still there, once famous Barbiery bar (across road from soi Hotmail) and to wher they moved-now a Chinese karaOK, beyond Golden Cock, opposite natur|Boy. But its also remarkable how long old signs can stay on abandoned buildings, like GUY massage in (sub)soi Sukhvit 19- at least 3-4 yrs.
A guesthse once favoured by gay people on budget -also Om Yim-quite close to new KPower Mahanakorn is now different name-but old name is still visibly on top.
The last day of operation of old Sake was 24sep2019 (info from friend, I didn't make it to their last night).
DeleteI stayed in Om Yim near Mahanakorn around 2011. I will check for old name next time I pass.
Aquarius Guesthouse in Suan Phlu is still standing, empty.
I wonder if building of former Aqua Spa in soi Pikun is still standing, when I was in BKK first time back in 2001 it was THE place to be in gay BKK.
